Negative consequences and the reality of death itself will not deter a crack addict when he feels the urge to smoke it. True DESIRE in the heart to stop for good is key.
To say that crack is morally wrong or bad is an understatement. To understand that it is something that brings on sorrow, distress, and calamity is only the beginning of understanding this hideous drug. Crack Cocaine in and of itself is no more than a substance. To a non-user to look at it and hold it is no more exciting than holding a small pebble. However, to the person who has used and become possessed by this seemingly harmless white rock, it is the source of all that is dark and hopeless. The crack-addict will get weak in the knees, his heart will pound, and his stomach will tighten and churn the second he sees it. To a crack-addict, it is not just a white, rock shaped substance, it is food, water, medicine, joy, misery, and life. A life that will ultimately progress into a deep, dark path to hopelessness and loss.
Crack cocaine is the one drug that can completely change a person's personality, morals, and values in such a negative way that it will take everything they ever had or ever hoped to have. The transformation is mind boggling to the oncesclose to the user. Educating yourself on howcrack does effect the user is important.
Crack Cocaine Recovery
The journey to escape the bondage of crack begins with a "choice,” then a “decision.” That choice can be as simple as waking up one day and telling yourself, "I choose to be crack free instead of continuing to use crack." The hard part is making the decision to follow through with that choice. There is a difference between a “choice” and a “decision.” A choice can be made once and for all, but a decision may need to be made over and over until it becomes absolute. Making a “choice” means that you have chosen one thing over another. Therefore, if you wake up and make the choice to be crack free instead of using crack, you need to follow through by making a decision to honor that choice no matter what. This decision may have to be made every day, every hour, and even every second if that is what it takes. It isn't something that can be decided and forgotten. It takes a commitment for life. Escaping the bondage of crack cocaine is so very hard, yet so simple.
That statement that Nancy Reagan made back in the 80's to "Just say no" is actually where it begins, however, if it really is that simple, then why is the success rate so low? For one thing, Mrs. Reagan was essentially addressing children who had never tried or even been exposed to drugs. It is easy to say "no" when you don't know what your missing, yet another thing all together when one has been introduced to a drug and has ultimately become addicted to it. So why is it so hard to "Just Say No," especially once one has introduced the drug into his system? It is mostly because the body becomes dependent on that drug. The body will depend on the drug to just feel normal. Trying to say no is a difficult task. Stressful circumstances or having cravings for it 24/7 adds to the difficulty. Your body keeps telling you that you "must" have it or you are going to feel horrible. "Just saying no" is easy to say, but staying true to that is hard when one knows they can eliminate the pain or discontent so easily by using the drug.
Taking Action
This is where "Just saying no" requires action. You start with the choice not to smoke crack anymore. You may have many reasons why you do not want to smoke it, but whatever the reason, you must have one that will motivate you to think twice every time you get an urge. You then have to make the decision, as often as is needed, not to give in to the urges. These decisions will be much easier to make if you are not exposed to crack. Crack, just like any other bad habit, can not take anymore of you than you allow. In order to overcome on a consistent basis, you must take steps to make obtaining crack virtually impossible. Furthermore, one of the most important things to start doing is to try and figure out the underlying problem that made you want to use in the first place. Something initiated this addiction and if you can come to grips with that and get the help needed to deal with it, you then begin to overcome the dependency on the drug. You can start by doing things like:
Stop carrying money. Let someone else handle your money.
This is a good place to start and is very effective if the one holding the money is consistent. Staying away from money will only work for a time, then the crack addict will find other ways to get their drug. However, the harder it is for the addict to obtain crack, the chances of success are increased. Ultimately, the user needs to find the reason they feel the need to use. keeping them from money will help, but it won't get to the core of the problem. (Why the addict feels the need to use in the first place)
Never be alone. Have someone take you to the places you must go.
Again, this will work for a while, but it is not always possible to keep tabs on someone 24/7. If the addict wants to get out bad enough, they will find ways to get out. Again, the core of the problem needs to be assessed and steps taken to overcome the things that cause the user to want to go out and use. Keeping the addict accountable can be a difficult task, but is very important.
Avoid getting bored.
Develop a routine that keeps your mind occupied and your body active. Find things that divert the mind from thinking about crack. Unfortunately a crack addict thinks about crack 24/7 and in order to stop, something must be done to give them something else to occupy their mind. Many have found that taking on a new hobby helps. Read, build models, fix things around the house, etc.
Figure out what brings on the urges
Develop a plan of action to distract your thoughts when the urges come. Although a reminder of the negative consequences of using are usually not a deterrent, it can help to have the user consider what could happen as a result of their use. Consider the worse case scenario and decide if it is worth taking the chance.
Get involved in a program of support
There are many free and online programs that can help crack addicts get the support they need. Support from family and friends is the most important. I would be more than happy to recommend some very good online crack cocaine support groups and recovery programs. Just
Contact Me and Iet me know what kind of help or support you are looking for. I will reply quickly.
This can be any type of program that teaches you more about the addiction and offers support from others who are experiencing the same things. I will not speak negatively about any program that has the purpose of helping one overcome this horrible addiction. They all have their pros and cons. The bottom line is that you are in a structured environment that offers a recovery plan.
